Create from a Crate is a biennial recycled woodwork competition that has attracted entrants from around Australia. First launched in 2002, the exhibition was conceived by Smart Recycling, Managing Director, Ward Petherbridge as a way of educating the community about wood-packaging waste.
Ward approached the Victorian Woodworkers Association to collaborate on Create from a Crate and jointly they have run 6 highly successful competitions.
In 2016 over 35 skilled furniture makers, sculptors, turners and carvers from around Australia took up the challenge to produce a prize-winning design or artwork from just two recycled wooden pallets from Smart Recycling.
