Showcasing Dandenong – Melbourne’s manufacturing hub

In May this year the Dandenong CBD was  transformed into the manufacturing epicentre of Australia with an expo-style event, promoting the world class capability and capacity of the region. Smart Manufacturing ’16 – Dandenong and South East Melbourne on Show saw the main square in Dandenong taken over with locally manufactured products such as the VLocity train, Melbourne’s E-Class tram, and Jayco caravans; as well as leading innovations such as emergency housing that can be deployed in a flat-pack and CSIRO’s 3D printed bicycle.

Smart Recycling got on board with the event, creating a Smart Kids Zone, where locals visiting our display had the opportunity to get involved in art and gardening projects using the materials recycled at our site.

Hundreds of visitors had the opportunity to get their hands dirty  planting herbs to take home using Smart Recycling’s recycled soil and mulch. There was also an art station stocked with off-cut recycled timber, graphic stencils and bright paints — all the components for creating your own individually designed artwork. Budding carpenters and engineers were also catered for. A free model train and truck kit, designed by Smart Recycling’s Production Manager Loe Hagai, was given away free.

And for further creative inspiration, we  showcased a selection of past entries from Create from a Crate.

We recycle timber packaging, commercial and builders waste and sell recycled pallets, crates and landscaping products.
